Terms of Use

Last updated 30 October 2026

These terms cover using Zed. Using the app means agreeing to them. They are written to be read rather than to be impressive.

Your account

You need an account, you must be at least 13, and the details you give must be your own. Keep your sign-in to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account. You may delete it at any time from Settings, and doing so deletes your content with it.

Your photos are yours

You keep ownership of everything you capture and write. You give us only the permission needed to run the service for you: to store your moments, show them to the people you chose, and reproduce them in a book when you order one. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for a book already printed and posted, which we obviously cannot recall.

What isn’t allowed

Zed has zero tolerance for objectionable content and for abusive users. Content that breaks the rules below is removed, and the person who posted it can have their account suspended or removed. Do not use Zed to share:

Every moment on the public map can be reported from the app, and you can block anyone in your circle at any time. We review reports and remove content that breaks these rules, usually within 24 hours. Content reported by several people is hidden automatically while it is looked at. We may suspend or remove an account that repeatedly breaks these rules.

Books

Printed books are physical goods, paid for at the time of order. Because each one is made from your own photographs and printed to order, a book cannot be resold and is not returnable once printing has begun. If a book arrives damaged, misprinted or does not arrive at all, write to help@zed.photos within 30 days and we will reprint or refund it. Delivery times depend on the printer and your address.

What we don’t promise

Zed is provided as it is. We work hard to keep your moments safe, and we keep backups, but we cannot guarantee the service will never be unavailable or that data will never be lost. Keep anything irreplaceable elsewhere too — the app saves copies of your photos to your phone for exactly this reason.

Some content is encrypted with a key held only on your device. If you lose that key and its recovery passphrase, that content cannot be recovered by anyone, including us. That is the point of it, and it is your responsibility to keep the passphrase.

Limits

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to what you have paid us in the previous twelve months. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.

Changes and endings

We may update these terms; material changes will be shown in the app before they take effect. You may stop using Zed and delete your account whenever you like. We may close an account that breaks these rules, and will say why unless we are legally prevented from doing so.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, United States, and any dispute will be heard in the courts of Cook County, Illinois.
